Rich Ancestral Heritage

Shri Narshi Natha

Our ancestor late Shri Narshi Natha, is the pioneer of the cotton trade in Mumbai and employed thousands of native villagers in the trade. After consistent draughts in Kutch, Gujarat, he came to Mumbai in 1744. He learnt the nuances of cotton grading and trading from the British officers and soon mastered the art. He is one of the most prominent industrialists, philanthropists, spiritual and dynamic personalities that the cotton industry has seen. The British Govt. named a business road in South Mumbai after him in 1911.

Late Shri Velji Asaria Daga commenced his cotton service in 1903 and laid the foundation of his own trading and brokerage firm.

1913 – 1956

Shri Ramji Velji Daga

After his early demise, his son, late Shri Ramji Velji Daga, joined the business in 1913 at the young age of 18 years. He earned a very good reputation as a master salesman & worked with many reputed firms like Ramnath Nandlal Dhoot, Gill & Co, etc. At that time, these companies acted as brokers and agents in the purchase and sale of cotton in the domestic market and also played a leading role in the import and export of cotton from overseas. Working with prominent importers, he gained thorough knowledge of India’s import needs.

Shri Pratap Ramji Daga
1956 – 2000

Shri Pratap Ramji Daga

His son, late Shri Pratap Ramji Daga, joined him in 1956. He continued the established business in Maharashtra and developed the business to other states of India, like Gujarat and Karnataka and specialised in marketing of Indian ELS cotton.
